During Mid-October to December, a magical event happens in the nutrient rich swirling blue waters off Magdalena Bay where All sorts of predators gather to hunt on the second largest sardine run in the world. This thrilling underwater action is spectacular.

Typical Itinerary – Luxury Liveaboard – 8 Days, 7 Nights

Day 1 – Board and Get Underway
Guests meet at SeeCreatures Cabo by 5:00 PM for a short transfer to the ship. After boarding, the vessel departs up the coast of Baja for a 15-hour voyage to Magdalena Bay. The journey typically features calm, sheltered waters inside the bay and barrier islands, where the ship anchors at night. Please note that interactions with sardine bait balls take place in the open Pacific Ocean.

Day 2 – Welcome to Magdalena Bay!
Arrival in Magdalena Bay is expected by late morning. The day serves as a warm-up and tune-up, centered around the south end of Margarita Island. Guests can enjoy snorkelling with sea lions and, weather permitting, explore two historic wrecks: a 200-year-old passenger ship and a WWI submarine. While the focus is on snorkelling and freediving, this introductory day offers a mix of both adventure and acclimatization.

Days 3–6 – Peak Season at Mag Bay
With the support of a spotter airplane during the first couple of days, guests set out in search of bait balls. The emphasis is on snorkelling and freediving—no scuba diving during this period. These days are action-packed, offering encounters with striped marlin, Bryde's whales, turtles, sharks, sea lions, and seabirds. This eco-tourism experience is powered by partnerships with local panga captains who have shifted from fishing to conservation-focused tourism. Their unmatched knowledge of the region ensures optimal wildlife sightings.

Day 7 – Flex Day & Sand Dunes
Reserved as a backup day for bait ball exploration in case of previous bad weather, this day can also include optional scuba diving and a shore excursion to the dramatic sand dunes of Margarita Island. Departure for Cabo takes place mid-afternoon, typically with calm seas and gentle motion.

Day 8 – Disembarkation in Cabo
Breakfast is served on board before disembarkation in Cabo by 8:30 AM.

Multiple orca pods visit the Sea of Cortez every spring and summer—one of the few places where these apex predators actively interact with humans. Orcas are present year-round, with peak sightings from July to August. Sightings are most frequent around Cerralvo Island and Isla San Jose, though they roam widely. A seasonal highlight: massive schools of acrobatic mobula rays gather from late March to early July—an unforgettable sight both above and below the water.

Day 1 – Welcome Aboard!
Guests are welcomed in Cabo San Lucas, with a 1:00 pm photo session and diving orientation at SeeCreatures. The Sea of Cortez is a stunning blend of ocean and desert, teeming with life. For nearly 50 years, the team has explored this vibrant ecosystem, where 80–220 whale sharks gather annually in Bahia de Los Angeles from May to early November. While whale sharks are a highlight, guests may also encounter sea lions, giant finback whales (second only to blue whales), and, with luck, orcas—especially in July and August, when 20 orca sighting days were recorded in August 2023. Every trip is different, and nature always keeps things exciting.

Route Description - Sea of Cortez 5 Night Get-Away

Guests can enjoy up to 4 dives a day, plus snorkeling, kayaking, paddleboarding, hiking, or simply relaxing on pristine beaches—all guided by a warm and experienced Baja crew. This 6-day, 5-night ocean safari explores the calm waters of the Sea of Cortez, set against the dramatic backdrop of the Sonoran desert. With 50 years of experience and regular spotter plane patrols, every trip is designed to maximize wildlife encounters and guest enjoyment.

Sample Itinerary – Sea of Cortez Expedition

Fly into SJD, Cabo.

Day 1 – Arrival & Transfer
Guests are invited to a complimentary photo workshop at SeeCreatures Cabo in the morning. GoPro rentals and coaching are also available. By 4:30 pm, guests transfer to La Paz, greeted onboard with margaritas and champagne. Enjoy a peaceful evening under the stars—perhaps from the hot tub or upper deck.

Days 2–5 – Sea Safari
Each day is shaped by weather, wildlife sightings, and decades of local expertise. The adventure begins near Cerralvo Island with warm-up dives and a visit to La Reina—home to swirling fish schools and the best chance to see giant manta rays.

From there, the route adapts to animal sightings. Guests may encounter dolphins, sea lions, or even orcas. Stops often include:
•Isla Las Animas – Known for sea lions and seasonal hammerhead sharks (June–Nov).
•Isla La Reina – Prime spot for snorkeling, paddling, and manta ray encounters.
•Espiritu Santo – A UNESCO World Heritage Site with wreck dives, beach landings, hiking, and wildlife viewing, including finback whales.

Divers have the option for up to 4 dives per day. Non-divers can pre-arrange snorkeling, kayaking, or even a discover scuba session with the concierge team.

Day 6 – Farewell & Optional Add-Ons
Disembark after breakfast at 8:30 am in La Paz with complimentary transfer to SeeCreatures Cabo or SJD Airport. Guests can extend their trip with a day at Cabo Pulmo or a dive at Gordo Banks before heading home.
