Route Description - Best of Raja Ampat
10 Days 9 Nights
ITINERARY HIGHLIGHTS:
Situated at the heart of the Coral Triangle, Raja Ampat is widely regarded as the most biodiverse marine environment on the planet. This protected region offers divers the chance to encounter everything from majestic manta rays and elusive hammerhead sharks to colourful reef dwellers and macro critters hiding among pristine coral gardens. Pelagic species patrol the blue, providing thrilling big fish action, while rare and unusual marine life—such as the endemic walking shark—adds a sense of discovery to every dive.
Above the surface, the scenery is equally spectacular. The southern region of Misool features sugarloaf limestone islands, kaleidoscopic blue lagoons, deserted beaches, and lush mangrove forests, creating an otherworldly landscape. Raja Ampat, meaning “Four Kings” in Indonesian, spans a vast marine park with over 170 nautical miles between its furthest points. With such variety, it’s possible to dive for weeks without repeating a single site.
Raja Ampat is generally explored in three main regions: North, Central, and South. Each offers unique topography, ecosystems, and dive experiences:
Northern Section: Includes the dramatic limestone islands of Wayag, the rich reefs of Kawe, and the sheltered macro haven of Aljui Bay.
Central Section: Features iconic sites such as Cape Kri, Penemu, Arborek, and the fish-filled Dampier Strait, known for its incredible density of marine life.
Southern Section: Encompasses the remote and wild sites of Daram, Wayilbatan, Fiabacet, and Pelee, celebrated for their soft coral walls and vibrant underwater topography.
Depending on the season, 9-night itineraries explore both the central region and either the north or south. The more extensive 12-night trips cover all three regions for a comprehensive Raja Ampat experience.
The journey also includes land-based adventures, such as a short trek to the panoramic viewpoint in Penemu, where guests are rewarded with breathtaking views over its iconic star-shaped lagoon and surrounding karst landscape.
