The adventure begins in Cairns as guests board True North II and set sail to explore the northern Great Barrier Reef. The first evening includes sunset drinks and canapés, an introduction to reef conservation efforts by experts, and a welcome dinner prepared by the onboard chef.
Ribbon Reef Exploration
The day unfolds at Ribbon Reef No. 3, a vibrant underwater world ideal for both diving and snorkelling. Guests encounter dazzling marine life and stunning coral formations. The journey continues to Ribbon Reef No. 10, home to the famous Steve’s Bommie—renowned for its colourful coral towers and rare macro species. Between dives, guests can relax on deck or engage with the onboard marine biologist to learn more about this fragile ecosystem.
Lizard Island
At Lizard Island, guests dive and snorkel among giant clams at the Clam Gardens and visit the world-leading Lizard Island Research Station. As a hub for reef restoration, the island provides insight into cutting-edge coral reproduction and management strategies to combat crown-of-thorns starfish outbreaks and coral bleaching.
Sandbanks National Park
At the northern tip—nicknamed "Shark City"—guests encounter whitetip, grey, and silvertip reef sharks. The dramatic wall dive reveals a vibrant ecosystem of corals, invertebrates, and schooling fish.
Tijou Reef
Tijou Reef offers varied diving experiences, including coral gardens on the inner side and dramatic wall dives along the outer eastern edge.
Wreck Bay
This site features caves, ledges, and bommies teeming with clownfish, turtles, gropers, and colourful coral. Guests join researchers tagging whale sharks and have the opportunity to snorkel alongside these gentle giants. Helicopter flights offer the chance to spot whale sharks, Omura whales, and oceanic manta rays while showcasing the technologies used in marine conservation and tracking.
Lockhart River & Return to Cairns
Guests disembark at Lockhart River for a scenic charter flight back to Cairns, following the stunning Queensland coastline—concluding a remarkable reef expedition aboard True North II.
