Route Description - Komodo
6 Days 5 Nights
Day 1 | Embarkation in Labuan Bajo (2 Dives)
Guests are collected from their hotel or Labuan Bajo Airport and transferred to the harbor, where the crew of Calico Jack extends a warm welcome aboard. After refreshments and a guided tour of the vessel, a safety briefing is conducted covering diving protocols and life onboard. By midday, the boat sets sail towards Sebayur Island.
Upon arrival, guests complete a check dive near Sebayur Kecil, followed by the first night dive of the trip in the surrounding waters. The evening is spent anchored near the island, allowing guests to ease into the rhythm of life at sea.
Day 2 | North Komodo Strait (4 Dives)
The day begins with a light breakfast before diving at Batu Bolong—“Hollow Rock”—a dramatic and world-renowned dive site in the North Komodo Strait. Sheer walls, abundant corals, and thriving marine life including sharks, trevallies, turtles, and napoleon wrasse make this a spectacular start to the day.
Later, divers experience the vibrant currents and orange soft corals of Tatawa Besar during an exciting drift dive. The third dive at Tatawa Kecil reveals complex underwater topography with walls, caves, and overhangs, along with a high concentration of groupers, snappers, and trevallies.
If conditions permit, a night dive in the area will round out this exceptional day of diving.
Day 3 | South Komodo Strait (4 Dives)
The day begins with a dive on the south side of Batu Bolong—equally stunning and full of surprises. The second dive at Siaba Kecil offers thrilling drift diving through deep underwater canyons, often visited by pelagic species such as sharks, barracudas, and large schools of trevallies and sweetlips.
The third dive is at Siaba Besar, a calm, shallow coral garden teeming with juvenile marine life and rare species like dugongs, ghost pipefish, and octopus. Protected by the bay, this site resembles an underwater playground of vibrant coral colonies and satellite reefs.
If conditions are favorable, guests may enjoy a night dive to further explore this biodiverse location.
Day 4 | Gili Lawa (4 Dives)
At first light, Calico Jack sails north to Gili Lawa, home to the exhilarating drift dives of Cauldron and Golden Passage. Both sites are dynamic channels between islands, where strong currents deliver exciting encounters with reef sharks, giant trevallies, groupers, and occasionally manta rays.
In the afternoon, the group dives at Coral Garden, a vibrant reef bustling with colorful corals, turtles, and frogfish.
Before sunset, guests trek to the top of Gili Lawa Island to take in panoramic views of the Komodo archipelago. The day concludes with an optional night dive, depending on conditions.
Day 5 | Rinca Island (2 Dives)
The morning dives take place at Castle Rock and Crystal Rock, two of Komodo’s most iconic sites. These nutrient-rich waters host vast marine biodiversity including clouds of fusiliers, tuna, reef sharks, groupers, and, occasionally, dolphins.
After lunch, the vessel cruises south to Rinca Island, where guests disembark for a guided “Dragon Walk” to observe the legendary Komodo dragons in their natural habitat.
As the sun sets, Calico Jack sets sail for Flying Fox Island. At dusk, guests witness thousands of fruit bats soaring across the sky as they return to Rinca.
The day ends with one of Calico Jack’s renowned beach BBQs, featuring a relaxed evening of music, games, and a delicious meal prepared by the onboard chef, served under the stars on a pristine island beach.
Day 6 | Disembarkation in Labuan Bajo
Following breakfast and a final exchange of stories and photographs, guests bid farewell to the crew. Transfers are arranged back to Labuan Bajo Airport or local hotels, concluding an unforgettable journey through the Komodo archipelago.
