Route Description - Cocos Island - 13 nights
The Cocos Island 13 Nights liveaboard expedition is an unforgettable journey to one of the world’s premier shark-diving destinations. After travelling from San José to Puntarenas and crossing the Pacific, guests spend ten days exploring Cocos Island’s spectacular pinnacles, with around three dives per day and opportunities for deeper dives. Expect thrilling encounters with hammerheads, reef sharks and other pelagic marine life in the remote waters of this legendary UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Arrival Day
Arrive in San José at least one day before departure. Take a taxi or minivan from the airport to your hotel. Undersea Hunter will confirm your pick-up time 1–2 weeks before departure. Pre- and post-cruise accommodation, meals, air travel and airport transfers are not included.
Day 1 – San José to Puntarenas
Hotel pick-up is generally between 8 AM and 1 PM, followed by a 2½-hour bus transfer to Puntarenas to board the vessel. Depending on tides, a skiff transfer may be required. The boat then begins its 32–36-hour journey to Cocos Island.
Day 2 – At Sea
A relaxing travel day to organise dive and camera equipment, enjoy the Pacific views and prepare for the diving ahead. There may also be an opportunity to complete a diving course onboard.
Days 3–12 – Cocos Island
Spend ten days exploring the spectacular pinnacles around Cocos Island, with around three dives per day. Most dives are at 18–30 metres, with deeper sites also possible.
Day 13 – Cocos Island to Costa Rica
Enjoy the final three dives before beginning the cruise back to Costa Rica.
