Route Description - Triton Bay, The Ring of Fire & The Forgotten Islands (12 nights)
One-way trip linking the dive destinations of Triton Bay and Banda Sea. Swim with whale sharks as they feed at the fishing platforms of Triton Bay. Descend amongst hundreds of sea snakes at Pulau Manuk. Witness schooling hammerhead sharks at Serua Island. Schooling hammerheads off the steep slopes of Nil Desperandum atoll.
Please note: This is a reverse-trip itinerary, starting at your final destination and working backward to your point of origin.
Day 1 – Kaimana to Aiduma
Guests are welcomed aboard KLM Mari following a morning transfer from Kaimana Utarom Airport or their hotel. After a boat briefing, cabin check-in, and dive equipment setup, the vessel departs Kaimana. A relaxed check dive introduces the region before Mari sails overnight towards Aiduma Island.
Day 2 – Aiduma & Triton Bay
The expedition begins with diving around Aiduma, where vibrant coral reefs, pinnacles, and rocky formations are home to schooling fish, pelagic species, ghost pipefish, mantis shrimp, and an abundance of macro life. The sheltered reefs provide an excellent introduction to the rich biodiversity of Triton Bay.
Day 3 – Triton Bay Whale Shark Bagans
Today's highlight is an unforgettable encounter with whale sharks at the traditional bagans (fishing platforms), where these gentle giants are often seen feeding. Additional dives explore Triton Bay's healthy coral reefs, renowned for their rich marine biodiversity, colourful reef fish, and fascinating macro life.
Days 4–5 – Wirmaf, Pulau Bui, Uran & Kirkaf
These remote islands offer spectacular diving across coral gardens, steep walls, and drift sites. Nutrient-rich waters attract schooling fish, pelagic species, and impressive sponge-covered reefs, while photographers will appreciate the colourful corals and dramatic underwater landscapes.
Day 6 – Pulau Kur
Pulau Kur features untouched reefs, beautiful coral gardens, caves, and swim-throughs. Divers can encounter schools of snapper and grunts, manta rays during feeding season, and an impressive variety of nudibranchs, shrimps, and other macro life.
Day 7 – Kepulauan Tiga Saudara
This uninhabited island group offers pristine reefs teeming with marine life. Schools of surgeonfish, angelfish, and reef fish thrive here, while tuna, dolphins, and other pelagic species are often spotted in the blue. If conditions allow, a night dive reveals a fascinating array of nocturnal creatures.
Day 8 – Manuk
Pulau Manuk is a dramatic volcanic island where sulphur smoke rises from the summit while divers explore reefs famous for sea snakes, schooling fish, and the possibility of hammerhead shark encounters. Thousands of seabirds nest on the island, adding to its unique atmosphere.
Day 9 – Serua
The volcanic island of Serua offers thrilling dives along steep walls and sloping reefs in search of schooling hammerhead sharks. Healthy coral reefs support giant sponges, fusiliers, trevallies, surgeonfish, and sea snakes. Depending on conditions, up to four dives, including a possible night dive, may be offered before the overnight crossing.
Day 10 – Karang Nildesperandum
This extensive submerged reef features healthy hard corals, dramatic walls, and excellent visibility. Large schools of fish, predatory action, and occasional hammerhead shark encounters make this one of the expedition's highlights. If weather permits, an additional dive at Dusborgh Reef may also be included.
Day 11 – Pulau Dai
Pulau Dai is renowned for its crystal-clear water, flourishing coral gardens, underwater tunnels, and caverns. Schools of barracuda, jacks, turtles, clownfish, butterflyfish, and other reef life make for memorable dives.
Day 12 – Dawera
The final diving day explores Dawera's colourful reefs, underwater seamounts, and coral-covered walls. Schools of fusiliers, snapper, reef sharks, nudibranchs, and countless macro species provide a fitting finale before returning north.
Day 13 – Saumlaki Disembarkation
After breakfast, guests disembark between approximately 5:00 AM and 11:00 AM, depending on their onward travel arrangements. Complimentary transfers are provided to Saumlaki Airport or a local hotel.
