Route Description - Raja Ampat & Banda Sea (Ambon-Sorong)

Set sail from Ambon aboard Adelaar on an extraordinary journey through the Banda Sea and Raja Ampat, where legendary hammerhead encounters, untouched reefs, and dramatic island scenery define each day. From schooling hammerheads at Manukang and Hatta to pristine beaches in Watubela, fish-filled reefs in Koon, and the world-renowned biodiversity of Misool, this voyage blends big-animal action with vibrant coral gardens, rare critters, night dives, and unforgettable topside adventures. Concluding in Sorong, this expedition offers a perfect balance of exploration, adrenaline, and natural beauty in some of Indonesia’s most remote and rewarding waters.

Day 1 Ambon
After boarding Adelaar in Ambon, guests enjoy their first day onboard while cruising straight into the heart of the deep blue Banda Sea.

Day 2 Manukang
The first stop is Manukang, a volcanic outcrop that, according to Moluccan lore, is believed to be haunted. While the legends remain unconfirmed, what is certain is the site’s attraction for pelagic visitors. Schooling hammerhead sharks cruise along underwater ridges covered in massive barrel sponges. 4 day dives

Day 3 Hatta
Hatta, the easternmost island of the Banda Archipelago, is named after Indonesia’s first vice-president, who once lived here in exile. Diving around Hatta focuses almost exclusively on encounters with schooling hammerhead sharks. Groups range from just a few individuals to hundreds of these majestic animals, creating one of the most unforgettable experiences in the Banda Sea. 4 day dives

Day 4 Watubela
The Watubela Archipelago is also frequently visited by schooling hammerhead sharks. Beyond this, these remote islands—located at the border between the Banda and Seram Seas—offer spectacular white sandy beaches, ideal for postcard-perfect sunset drinks after a day of diving surrounded by schooling fish. 3 day dives

Day 5 Koon
For those who enjoy diving amid overwhelming fish abundance, Koon delivers. In addition to its incredible marine life, a unique surface adventure awaits nearby. Depending on tidal conditions, guests may enter a hidden system of marine lakes and canals for a snorkel and swim trek unlike any other. At the end of the trail, enthusiastic local village children often provide a warm welcome. 3 day dives

Day 6 – Fiabacet, Wayil, Pele
Another day is spent exploring the stunning reefs of Misool, with dives at Nudi Rock, Tank Rock, Whale Rock, and Gorgonian Passage.

There are opportunities to revisit Boo Windows, Magic Mountain, and Four Kings for even more exceptional marine encounters.

Adventure: Wayil is home to one of Raja Ampat’s most iconic viewpoints—Love Lake. From the summit, guests can admire the heart-shaped lagoon with its deep blue center. Ideally, the hike takes place early in the morning before diving, when conditions are cooler and energy levels are high. Please note that access is tide-dependent, as surrounding reefs can become too shallow. (3 day dives)

Day 7 Misool – Balbulol
The day focuses on exploring the Balbulol Lagoon, known for its dramatic limestone formations.

Dives take place at sites such as Two Tree Island, Plateau, No Contest, and Love Potion, featuring impressive drop-offs, schooling fish, and stunning coral formations.

A scenic boat tour through the Balbulol Lagoon highlights its unique karst formations and turquoise waters. 3 day dives, 1 night dive

Day 8 Misool – Wagmab
The dense growth of soft and black corals around Wagmab creates a kaleidoscope of color, often rivaled by the vivid critters hidden within—nudibranchs, frogfish, boxer crabs, blue-ringed octopus, and more. These sites are also among the best places to encounter Raja Ampat’s endemic walking shark during night dives. Several lagoon and cavern systems are explored by speedboat, while snorkelers can enjoy marine lakes inhabited by stingless jellyfish. 3 day dives, 1 night dive

Day 9 – Daram (Misool)
The morning is spent diving in the remote and vibrant Daram area, home to iconic sites such as Warna Berwarna, Andiamo, and Candy Store. These reefs are celebrated for their colorful soft corals, dramatic underwater landscapes, and swirling clouds of fusiliers.

After two dives, Adelaar begins the return voyage to Sorong, a 14-hour crossing through the heart of Raja Ampat.

Day 10 – Sorong & Farewell
Early morning arrival in Sorong. After breakfast, the crew assists guests with airport transfers or hotel drop-off.

Booking Conditions / Additional Costs / Marine Park Fees

Cancellations for Individual and Group Bookings: All cancellations must be made by fax or e-mail. The date that ADELAAR receives the cancellation of the booking by e-mail or fax is the date used to determine the cancellation penalty.

Cancellation penalties for individual bookings:
More than 90 Days - Loss of deposit. Less than 90 Days - Loss of full payment Less than 60 days prior to departure: 100% of the individual cruise price.

Cancellation penalties for group bookings:
More than 91 days prior to departure: forfeit of deposit.
Less than 90 days prior to departure: 100% of the group charter price.
Once an add-in Diving Komodo Itinerary becomes fully booked and closed for further bookings, no refunds will be given for cancellations. This information will be posted on our webpage schedule, as fully booked. Individual guests are responsible for checking the website prior to any cancellation.
A passenger who has booked into a scheduled Bali to Komodo trip, and who wishes to cancel, has the option to substitute another person (not already scheduled on the trip) into his space to avoid the cancellation penalty. Passenger substitution will be allowed up to three days prior to departure.
ADELAAR will not refund any money to passengers who fail to show for boarding on the trip departure date, whether this is due to missed airline connections or from the lack of proper paperwork required to enter the country, or any other reason. If an airline connection is missed, ADELAAR will make all efforts to arrange that the passenger can join the ADELAAR at some point in the itinerary. However, the cost to do so (airfare, small boat transport to ADELAAR, or any other cost involved) is solely the responsibility of the client.
If the customer interrupts or cuts short a trip for any reason, ADELAAR is not liable to refund any money to the customer. In cases of emergency such as personal illness or accident, ADELAAR will assist in all necessary arrangements for the passenger’s return travel. However, the cost of this is to be borne solely by the passenger.
For these reasons we strongly recommend the purchase of trip interruption insurance and/or trip cancellation insurance.
