Route Description - Banda Sea & Alor 8N (Maumere-Ambon)
Cruise aboard Adelaar from Maumere to Ambon on a thrilling expedition through Indonesia’s remote eastern seas. Discover shark-filled seamounts, hammerhead encounters, volcanic islands, and pristine Banda Sea reefs teeming with pelagics. The journey ends with legendary Ambon and Laha muck diving, offering rare macro treasures such as rhinopias, ghost pipefish, and frogfish — a perfectly balanced adventure of big animals and extraordinary critters.
Day 1 - Maumere
After boarding Adelaar in Maumere, North Flores, guests enjoy their first day on board while cruising eastwards along the Flores coastline.
Day 2 - Adonara
The submerged seamounts off Adonara are covered in a rich mix of hard and soft corals, sheltering abundant reef fish and attracting predators such as jacks, tunas, blacktip and grey reef sharks. Juvenile silvertip sharks are often seen patrolling the clear blue waters. 3 day dives
Day 3 - Pantar
The day begins with an adrenaline-filled dive targeting schooling hammerhead sharks, followed by a stunning wall dive densely covered in soft corals. Afternoon and night dives take place on a patch reef known for rhinopias. After the afternoon dive, guests visit a picturesque local village. 3 day dives, 1 night dive
Day 4 - Wetar
After an overnight crossing, the vessel arrives in the Moluccas to dive the walls and slopes of Reong and Wetar. These sites are often rich in fish life, including grey reef and bamboo sharks, giant trevally, schooling jacks, rainbow runners and tunas. Quieter areas reveal vast fields of zebra anemones, occasionally home to the rare leopard shrimp. Sailing continues into the Banda Sea, with chances of whale sightings along the way. 3 day dives
Day 5 - Gunung Api
Gunung Api, an isolated volcanic island rising from the Banda Sea, hosts large seabird colonies above water and thriving pelagic life below. Divers encounter schools of jacks, surgeonfish, tunas and barracudas, along with large numbers of sea snakes, making these dives truly unique. 4 day dives
Day 6 - Lucipara Maisel Archipelago
This remote group of uninhabited sandy islands is surrounded by shallow fringing reefs that drop steeply into the crystal-clear depths of the Banda Sea. These exploratory dives offer excellent chances of encounters with pelagic species such as tunas, rainbow runners, thresher sharks, silky sharks and hammerheads. 4 day dives
Day 7 - South Ambon
After two morning dives along Ambon’s exposed southern coast, the journey continues into Ambon Bay for world-class muck diving. Highlights include thorny seahorses, ornate ghost pipefish, rhinopias, frogfish and ribbon eels. 3 day dives, 1 night dive
Day 8 - Laha
Laha’s legendary muck diving offers incredible macro encounters, including nudibranchs, cephalopods, Ambon scorpionfish and leaf scorpionfish. With luck, divers may spot the rare and bizarre psychedelic frogfish. 2 day dives
Day 9 - Ambon
After a final breakfast on board, guests disembark in Ambon, bringing the journey to a close — until the next adventure.
