Route Description - Truk Lagoon
Witness the spectacular kaleidoscope of corals blanketing the vast array of wrecks filling the gorgeous lagoon.
Truk Lagoon is home to an entire Japanese fleet that was sunk in 1944 during World War II. Today, these historic wrecks are encrusted with over 300 varieties of hard and soft coral, creating a spectacular underwater museum of tanks, airplanes, and bombers transformed by nature. Beyond the wrecks, the outer reef offers mountains of coral stretching as far as the eye can see and is the site of the thrilling shark dive.
Enclosed by a 225-kilometre barrier reef and covering more than 2,000 square kilometres, Truk Lagoon is a haven for marine biodiversity. Schooling tropical fish, grey reef sharks, and spotted eagle rays are just a few of the many species divers may encounter in this underwater paradise.
Each day aboard Odyssey Liveaboard offers a new adventure—there’s no fixed routine. The daily schedule varies based on dive site location and guest preferences, ensuring flexibility and excitement throughout the trip.
A typical day begins with a hot breakfast at 7:00 a.m., followed by the first dive briefing at around 7:45 a.m. Guests can complete two dives before lunch. During lunch, the vessel usually relocates to a new dive site. In the afternoon, guests may choose between another dive or simply relaxing on the sundeck. A late afternoon dive is also available. At 6:30 p.m., a delicious dinner is served, with the option for a night dive afterward.
Most of the dive sites in Truk Lagoon are in close proximity, making it easy and convenient to explore multiple wrecks each day. One of the unique benefits of diving with Odyssey is the freedom to dive at one’s own pace—guests are not required to follow a strict group schedule. It’s not uncommon for a buddy pair to be the only divers exploring a massive 500-foot wreck. For underwater photographers, this offers unmatched opportunities to capture iconic scenes without interruption.
With its historical significance, vibrant marine life, and flexible diving schedule, Truk Lagoon aboard Odyssey Liveaboard is truly a world-class diving experience.
