Route Description - Yongala Wreck & Coral Sea Expedition

7 Nights – Up to 29 Dives. This expedition combines adventure diving: SS Yongala Wreck; dramatic vertical walls of Holmes and Flinders Reef. Dive back in time and into history.

Sample itinerary – subject to change based on weather and ocean conditions.

Note: This expedition begins in Townsville and concludes in Cairns. A commercial flight to Townsville is not included and must be arranged independently.

Thursday – Embarkation in Townsville
5:30 pm – Check-in at Spoilsport, Breakwater Marina, Townsville
6:00 pm – Departure
Guests enjoy a welcome glass of champagne and light snacks while the Trip Director provides a full safety and itinerary briefing.
Guests are encouraged to organise rental gear and set up dive equipment.

Please note: Dinner is not provided on this first evening. We recommend eating prior to boarding.

Friday – Wheeler Reef & SS Yongala Wreck (Up to 4 dives + night dive)
6:30 am – Wake-up call; light breakfast served
7:00 am – Dive briefing & first dive
9:00 am – Full cooked breakfast
10:30 am – Dive briefing & “open deck” diving (1–2 dives)
2:00 pm – Lunch
3:30 pm – Afternoon dive
4:30 pm – Afternoon tea
6:30 pm – Night dive briefing & dive
8:00 pm – Dinner

Saturday – SS Yongala & Old Reef (Up to 4 dives + night dive)
7:00 am – 2:00 pm – “Open Deck” diving on SS Yongala Wreck (up to 3 dives)
Afternoon and night diving at Old Reef and SS Gothenburg

Sunday to Tuesday – Flinders Reef (Up to 4 dives + night dive each day)
Explore world-class sites including:
Cod Wall
Geronimo’s
Watanabe
Rock Arch
Fan Fair
Trigger Happy

Daily schedule follows the standard dive routine outlined above.

Wednesday – Holmes Reef, Coral Sea (Up to 4 dives)
Final diving day at Holmes Reef – no night dive
Last dive concludes by 5:00 pm
Celebrate with a sunset Aussie BBQ party night
Wear your loudest tropical shirt or dress
Enjoy live music performed by our talented crew
Spoilsport cruises overnight to Cairns

Thursday – Disembarkation in Cairns
7:00 am – Light breakfast
8:00 am – Disembark with courtesy transfer to:
Cairns inner-city hotels
Cairns Airport
Or our office (luggage storage available until 4:00 pm for later flights)

Important Notes
Flight Safety: We recommend allowing at least 24 hours between your last dive and any onward flight (all diving ends by 4:00 pm Wednesday).
Commercial Flights: Guests must arrange their own flights to Townsville.
Training Courses: No dive courses are offered on this expedition.

Booking Conditions / Additional Costs / Marine Park Fees

Your reservation request is obligation free and you can cancel anytime within the first 72 hours. During this time, you can easily find matching flights and get answers from our reservations team to any further questions you may have.

After you have confirmed and paid for your reservation, the following cancellation policy applies:

More than 60 days prior to departure: Deposit refundable, less 1.8% credit card transaction fee.
Between 60 – 30 days prior to departure: Deposit not refundable. Credit valid for 2 years.
Within 30 days of departure: 100% forfeit. Credits only offered for cancellations directly resulting from a pandemic; relevant documentation required.

Please note: Marine park fees, surcharges etc can change and we cannot be held liable for differences in on-board surcharges. These will be confirmed at the time of booking
